HostGator Account First Visit

After you finish the sign up process at HostGator, you will get a welcome email from the HostGator Company. The welcome email contains all the information about your hosting account. HostGator offers cPanel for managing your account. You will get cPanel login information in the welcome email. You will also get the server IP details in the welcome email. If you want to access your website using IP then you can do so. You also get the name servers details in the email.

The First Thing To Do

After the sign up process at HostGator, you need to perform one operation. If you registered a domain name through HostGator then you don't need to perform this operation but if you registered a domain name through another registrar then you need to set up the HostGator name servers for that domain at the registrar.

I assume that you have go the name servers details in your welcome email sent from HostGator. If you haven't got the name servers details then you can get that information after login to the cPanel account. I registered a domain name through HostGator. That's why I didn't need to setup the domain name servers. HostGator automatically did that for me.

When you sign up for a hosting account, the DNS entries take time to propagate. So it may happen that you can't access your website for 1-2 days. If you face the DNS issue then you can access your website using the temporary URL. The URL looks something like gatorXXXX.hostgator.com/username where username is your username and gatorXXXX.hostgator.com is a server name.

Look Inside cPanel

As I said earlier, HostGator offers cPanel for managing a hosting account. If you want to make some changes in your hosting account then you need to login to the cPanel using the username and password provided in the welcome email. I wanted to have a look at cPanel. I logged in to the cPanel and this is how the panel looks from inside.
